Wielander & Schill Body Chisel (511002)

The Wielander & Schill Body Chisel is a must-have tool for any bodyshop that carries out panel replacement work. It features two knife edges — one in the lengthways direction and one crossways. As a result, you can separate and remove body panels quickly and cleanly after spot welds have been drilled out.

In addition, this body chisel is ideal for splitting bonded panels. When adhesive-bonded sections need to come apart, the sharp edges slide between layers to break the bond without causing excess damage to the surrounding area.

Key Features

  • Dual knife edges — one lengthways and one crossways for flexible panel separation
  • Hardened steel blade — stays sharp through heavy daily use
  • Burnished coating — protects against rust and wear
  • DIN 7255 standard — meets the German industrial norm for flat chisels
  • Lightweight 260g design — easy to handle and control for long periods
  • Compact 300mm length — fits into tight gaps between panels

How to Use a Body Chisel

First, drill out or remove the spot welds holding the panel in place. Then, position the chisel edge between the two layers of metal. Next, tap the chisel gently with a hammer to drive it into the gap. Because the blade is thin and sharp, it slides between the panels and levers them apart. For bonded panels, use the same method — the chisel breaks the adhesive bond as it moves along the joint.

The two cutting directions give you more options. For example, use the lengthways edge when working along a straight seam. On the other hand, switch to the crossways edge when you need to prise panels apart at an angle or in a tight corner.

Typical Uses

  • Separating body panels after spot weld removal
  • Splitting adhesive-bonded panels during collision repair
  • Removing damaged sections such as sills, quarter panels, and inner wings
  • Opening folded seams and flanged joints
  • General bodywork stripping and panel prep

Why DIN 7255 Matters

DIN 7255 is the German industrial standard for flat chisels. It sets strict rules for blade hardness, shape, and finish. As a result, any chisel that meets this standard has been made to a proven level of quality. In other words, you can trust that the cutting edges will hold up under daily workshop use without chipping or bending.
